Silly Animals!

Favorite photos (and videos!) from June 2025
2

On the first Thursday of every month, I try to share a few favorites from my explorations. Mostly I like to share photos of wildlife, but on one of my walks I switched my camera to video mode to see if I could capture some of the behavior I sometimes see animals getting up to. The clips above are what I was lucky enough to grab.

I thought they deserved a nice family portrait with their teenagers. Dad was a little shy, though.
The aptly—if not imaginatively—named red-headed woodpecker

, we almost stumbled over these turkey poults hiding in a crack in the dirt path. They were so cute! They quickly made a break for it to hide in some tall grass.

I thought she looked pretty standing in the morning sun in a patch of yellow flowers

Driving around the southwestern edge of Cedar Rapids, I happened up on this line of bulldozers that looked like they were ready to go to war. I never did figure out what exactly they were all there for.

This young fella happened to be walking through my yard right outside my window as I was putting this post together, so I ran outside with my camera to take a little video. I love that the location of our house means we often get treated to these kinds of sightings. It makes home feel that much more peaceful.

I do this to remind myself (and all my readers) that there is beauty and joy all the time, even when the world is so messed up. I hope this email lifts your spirits a bit.

With love,
Courtney
